The Marvels Teases Cameos & Connection With Avengers: Secret Wars

Summary

  • The Marvels final trailer hints that the sequel will seemingly help pave the way for Avengers: Secret Wars.
  • The villain in The Marvels, played by Zawe Ashton, gains the ability to open portals to different realities, potentially leading to incursions.
  • The final trailer includes surprising cameos, fueling speculation that X-Men characters may also appear.

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe may seem a little uncertain now (especially with the crisis surrounding its big villain played by Jonathan Majors), but The Marvels makes it clear that all the stories are still strongly connected, as the latest trailer includes hints regarding the plot of Avengers: Secret Wars. Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels brings together Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’s Monica Rambeau in a new MCU cosmic adventure. This time, they will have to stop the villain played by Zawe Ashton, Dar-Benn, who gains the bracelets that Ms. Marvel first acquires. With them, Dar-Benn gains the ability to open portals to different realities, forming an army with soldiers from different worlds. Something that could lead to incursions.

Incursions are a very important concept in the multiverse stories of Marvel Comics, and especially in a series that will surely be one of the most important inspirations for one of the next big events of the MCU, Avengers: Secret Wars. In the most popular comic series known as Secret Wars, incursions cause one reality to collide with another until it collapses. And, given that after Avengers: Endgame the franchise has been concerned with establishing the concept of the Multiverse and showing different realities, it is not a surprise that this era of the franchise will come to an end with Avengers: Secret Wars.

In the 2015 comic book series, the incursions led to the creation of Battleworld, and eventually a single universe where everyone resides. And all of this would make sense with recent rumors that Secret Wars will serve as a reboot for the franchise.

The Marvels hits theaters on November 10, being the third and final MCU film to be released this year. And as all the movies in the franchise have done in the past, it is expected to include some surprising cameos that connect it with the rest of the stories that make up the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its future. In the most recent trailer, for example, Valkyrie appears. At the moment, it is not known if the character played by Tessa Thompson will only have a cameo or a more relevant role within the plot.

But even more intriguingly, at the end of the trailer, a mysterious figure appears which fans believe to be Binary, one of the many mantles that Carol Danvers has adopted in the comics. Additionally, recent rumors indicate that one or more X-Men characters could also appear in the movie, though this has not been confirmed. However, considering that the next MCU film that should hit theaters is Deadpool 3, it is very likely.

Currently, Marvel Studios is getting ready to meet with writers to develop films from the X-Men universe, so the future of mutants in the franchise is closer than ever, and they will play a very important role along with The Fantastic Four.
