Why Am I Killing Myself When That Can Exist?

Why Am I Killing Myself When That Can Exist?

Summary

  • Chris Hemsworth’s impressive physique as Thor made Paul Rudd question his own Ant-Man diet’s worth.
  • Rudd recalled what it was like to stand next to Hemsworth’s Adonis-like body on the set of Avengers: Endgame.
  • Despite his feelings of “inadequacy”, Rudd will be returning as Ant-Man in future Avengers movies and has upcoming projects outside of the MCU.

Chris Hemsworth reported pumped himself up to his most impressive physical peak for Thor: Love & Thunder. However, even when appearing in Avengers: Endgame, in which he was seen as an out of shape Thor, it seems that his Adonis-like body was enough to make costar Paul Rudd wonder why he was even bothering to stick to his Ant-Man diet.

Rudd most recently returned to the role of Ant-Man in this year’s release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which saw him take on a mighty variant of Kang the Conqueror and seemingly win. However, while speaking to the Off Menu podcast, Rudd explained, in his usual humorous style, how working alongside Chris Hemsworth on the Avengers movies was somewhat disheartening, but also made him thankful that he was not playing a character with the physique of Thor. He said:

“I remember on Endgame, Chris Hemsworth would always have these Tupperware containers and he’s eating this gruel of just a mash of stuff. He’s working out, and then you stand next to a guy like that, and I just think, ‘Well, what’s the point of any of this?’ Why am I killing myself when that can exist, and then I look at myself and this exists. I can never achieve that. … That was the good thing that it was Ant-Man, it isn’t Thor. But I tried to work out, and it didn’t work.”

Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man Will Return

Marvel Studios

Like many of the current roster of Marvel superheroes in the MCU, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man will no doubt be an integral part of the Avengers team that comes together to take on Kang’s variants in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars – at least if that plan manages to last the course.

Having made his debut as the size-shifting hero back in 2015, Rudd’s Ant-Man was originally seen as a mostly standalone character in the continuity of the MCU. Scott Lang’s story did interconnect with the main Marvel timeline in several small ways, but it was in Avengers: Endgame that his time to shine really came, as the instigator of the theory that the Quantum Realm could be used to pull off the “time heist” that would help defeat Thanos.

Subsequently, his latest adventure in Quantumania, delved deeper into the dangers of the Quantum Realm and saw Lang getting acquainted with Kang. Many fans were not exactly happy with the lowly Ant-Man being able to beat the MCU’s new “big bad,” something that was reflected in the movie’s mixed reviews and relatively low box office. However, as part of the larger Marvel story, the teasing end of the movie set up a Kang-filled future, and also gave a sneak peek at the second season of Loki, which also introduced another variant of Kang; Victor Timely. With several reports claiming that the future of Kang’s status in the MCU could be in doubt thanks to the current legal issues being faced by star Jonathan Majors, whether the mid-credits scene’s Council of Kangs is seen again is something we can only wait to find out.

Regardless of that, it is certain that Rudd will return in the next Avengers movie, whatever that turns out to be, but fans will see him back in another popular franchise early in 2024, when he reprises his role as Grooberson in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
