Former Jeopardy Host Mayim Bialik Celebrates Show’s Emmy Win Despite Her Recent Dismissal

Summary

  • Mayim Bialik celebrates Jeopardy!’s Emmy win despite no longer hosting the show, showing her love and support.
  • Bialik announced via Instagram that she would not be returning as host, but is grateful for her time on the show.
  • Ken Jennings will be the sole host of the syndicated version of Jeopardy! next season, maintaining continuity for viewers.

Jeopardy! fans were shocked when Mayim Bialik announced that she had been “informed by Sony” that she would no longer be performing hosting duties on the iconic game show last month. However, her sudden departure from the show did not prevent her from showing her love and support of the series as she celebrated its recent Emmy win for Outstanding Game Show.

Taking to her Instagram account, Bialik wrote:

I’m so proud to have been a part of the 2022 season of Jeopardy! that won the primetime Emmy win last night for best game show! And hearty congratulations to Keke Palmer for being the first woman in 15 years to win best host – you’re an inspiration to women everywhere and I salute you.

Best known for her work on the television series Blossom and The Big Bang Theory, Bialik shared hosting duties on the popular game show in seasons 38 and 39 along with Ken Jennings. But on Friday, December 15, Bialik revealed she’d not be returning. Bialik made the announcement via her official Instagram account. Bialik wrote in a post (via @missmayim):

“As the holiday break begins in Hollywood, I have some Jeopardy! news. Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy! I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family. For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America’s Favorite Quiz Show, thank you.”

Jennings has served as the host of Jeopardy! during season 40. Bialik last appeared on the game show at the conclusion of season 39. While the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike didn’t begin until July 14, 2023, Bialik made the decision not to film the final week of season 39 of Jeopardy! as she stood in solidarity with those supporting the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.

Ken Jennings has been handling the hosting duties in season 40. And a spokesperson addressed the fact that Bialik will no longer host the popular game show in the same Deadline report:

“Mayim Bialik has announced she will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy!. We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated Jeopardy!. We are truly grateful for all of Mayim’s contributions to Jeopardy!, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials.”

Jeopardy! debuted on March 30, 1964, and was hosted by Art Fleming, while the famous voice performer Don Pardo served as the game show’s announcer. Jeopardy!’s most well-known host, Alex Trebek, took over the reins in 1984, and he helmed the series until his death in November of 2020.
