When it was released back in 2021, Prime Video’s Them was met with high praise, mainly thanks to the efforts of Deborah Ayorinde and Ashley Thomas, while at the same time being criticized for its graphic nature. Now, the horror series from creator Little Marvin is returning for a second season with Them: The Scare, which turns the show into an anthology series in the same vein of American Horror Story, with the returning cast portraying a whole new crop of characters.
Prime Video has revealed that all eight episodes will premiere on April 25, 2024, and they’ve released some first look images to whet our appetites, which you can see below.
While the first installment of the anthology series was set in 1953 Los Angeles, Them: The Scare is jumping ahead to 1991, and will see the return of Deborah Ayorinde in the lead role. Newcomers include the iconic Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), Luke James (The Chi), Joshua J. Williams (Cloak & Dagger), Jeremy Bobb (The Continental), Wayne Knight (Seinfeld), Carlito Olivero (This Is Me… Now), Charles Brice (Watchmen), and Iman Shumpert (The Chi). Them: The Scare Will Examine Los Angeles’ Rich History
Release Date April 9, 2021
Seasons 1
With season 1 of the anthology series set in 1953 Los Angeles, Little Marvin gave audiences a glimpse into the history of the City of Angels as seen through the eyes of a black family who move to an all-white neighborhood, and the racial prejudices they face. Them: The Scare looks to further examine Los Angeles’ rich past, and Marvin is excited to bring the horror series into the 90s. He said in a press release that he couldn’t have asked for a “more fearless” group of actors to lead the next installment in its new direction.
“With
Them: The Scare
, we wanted to combine our love of horror with a look at Los Angeles’s rich history and evolution. This second installment is a new story set in the 90s, one of the most iconic decades for film, music and fashion, particularly in Los Angeles. I’m also excited about our amazing cast: Deborah Ayorinde returns as a completely new character, Luke James delivers an unforgettable performance and the legendary
Pam Grier, who has played so many iconic and beloved roles on screen, makes her return to horror…. We couldn’t have asked for a more fearless group to lead this second installment.”
