Franchise DC

As the DCEU wound down, many projects that had previously been teased fell by the wayside as James Gunn and Peter Safran made their new plans clear and phased out the old regime. As well as a new Superman, which cut Henry Cavill from the franchise, the new phase of DC offerings also includes the TV series, Paradise Lost, which will delve into the past of the Amazons and ultimately mean a new Wonder Woman will at some point be cast.

While speaking to Yahoo! Entertainment, Carter shared her opinions on the abandoned threequel, suggesting that it would take a huge amount of fan demand for it to ever be made. She said:

“I don’t think they want to do it unless there’s enough pressure from fans. I just don’t think they have the mind to do it. And I don’t understand that, because it seems to me that Wonder Woman is different from other characters. She’s not just a superhero. Her whole thing is about peaceful solutions. She’s not aggressive to be aggressive. It’s a different story. It’s about inner strength, outer strength. I don’t know why they tabled it, because it’s a great franchise.”

Carter’s comments echo those of director Jenkins, who recently explained that she doesn’t expect to be asked to continue Wonder Woman’s story anytime soon, and her time in the DC franchise is most likely over.

Linda Carter Says Wonder Woman Movies Revived the Franchise

Warner Bros.

Although Gal Gadot only had the chance to star in two solo movies, as well as several cameos in other DCEU films, Carter credits the actress and director Jenkins for bringing the Wonder Woman franchise back to the attention of the public. Explaining how she believes the character gained a new lease of life thanks to the original 2017 movie, Carter said:

“I have to give a lot of credit to Patty and Gal because the interest in my show had peaked when they came on the scene. [Their vision of Wonder Woman] was intentional — and how I played the character was intentional. To be good, kind, strong and do everything for the right reasons. Even when she was angry, she was angry at the right people.”

Currently, there is little known about the upcoming Wonder Woman series, or how important Wonder Woman will be in the Gunn and Safran DC universe. While Carter is clearly passionate about the character she originally ingrained in pop culture, the lacklustre response to Wonder Woman 1984 makes it uncertain whether Wonder Woman 3 would have ever made it off the ground, even in the old DCEU.
