As per Deadline, Blade Runner 2099, which recently got back on track following the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, will continue the franchise that began back in 1982 with Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner film that starred Harrison Ford, and received a sequel in 2017 with Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, which starred Ryan Gosling. Plot details remain under wraps at this time, with Yeoh’s character yet to be revealed.
At the time of the announcement of Blade Runner 2099, the Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios, Vernon Sanders, expressed his excitement for the new limited series, calling Ridley Scott’s original film “one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time.” He would go on to say that the new series “will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.” Check out his full statement below.

Ridley Scott Will Be Involved in Blade Runner 2099
As one of the greatest directors and producers of our time, Ridley Scott broke new ground with Blade Runner back in 1982. Based on Philip K. Dick’s novel ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?,’ the neo-noir science fiction thriller was a technological marvel for its time, pushing the boundaries of visual effects. While Scott would go on to create such classics as Thelma & Louise, and Gladiator, he returned to the franchise that made him a star, Alien, by helming Prometheus in 2012 and Alien: Covenant in 2017.
Scott will once again return to the world of Blade Runner, this time as a producer on Blade Runner 2099 with his company, Scott Free. Silka Luisa (Shining Girls, Halo) will also serve as executive producer, as well as showrunner for the series. The first two episodes will be directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, who most recently directed for the acclaimed FX series, Shōgun.
