- Despite Cavill’s departure, Allen remains a central figure in the series.
The conclusion of The Witcher is something that many fans seem ready for following the departure of Henry Cavill as the franchise lead. With the end now in sight, it appears that one of the series’ stars is also excited about moving on from the show. Freya Allan, who plays Ciri in the fantasy saga, shared her feelings about the series coming to an end after Season 5 in a new interview with Inverse.
The Witcher is based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, and follows the story of Geralt of Rivia and his entwined destiny with Ciri. Played by Cavill in the first three seasons, Geralt’s character became a fan favorite, defining much of the show’s initial success. Cavill’s departure and the subsequent casting of Liam Hemsworth in the role brought mixed reactions from fans, with many threatening to boycott the show and any other spin-offs delivered by Netflix.

Having played Ciri throughout the series, Allen is as integral to the show as Cavill was, and she will be seeing it through to the end. And that ending is something that she is actually a little excited by. As she explained:
“I was so kind of finished with it mentally. Initially, the challenge was thinking that I had to do two more. It’s going to be the end of a massive chapter which I’m excited for and ready for. But I think when I actually get to it, I’m going to be shocked at how much that hits me.”

The switch from Cavill to Hemsworth became more than a simple casting change, both from the point of view of fans and also the cast, who now have to adjust to a new lead star. Allen’s comments about being “finished” with the show, and almost seeming to struggle to mentally prepare herself to continue through the new episodes, make it clear that Hemsworth’s arrival has been something that everyone has had to get used to. While there were several key cast members who had built up a chemistry with Cavill, Allen previously called for fans to not be hard on Hemsworth. She said:
“I don’t want to speak for him, but from what I’ve understood, I feel like he’s really wanting to try and bring the heart. He’s been training. I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role. But I’m really excited to see what he does. And he’s such a lovely guy. I just hope that people give him the time of day, you know?”

Looking ahead, Allan remains a central figure in the story The Witcher has to tell. In Season 4, Ciri will have her own journey to go on, which will no doubt throw up more tough challengers for the character. With the series end now set with Season 5, there should be no reason why the creative team behind the show cannot wrap things up in a way that will satisfy those fans who do not abandon the franchise over Cavill’s exit.
