Although there is currently a Batman position still to be cast within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU, Robert Pattinson is the most recent star to don the cowl in a much darker, less fantastical take on the Dark Knight. When asked via a fan question how he believed he would be able to compete with Pattinson in the role, Christensen humbly suggested that it would certainly be a tough ask given the success of The Batman in 2022. In his reply, Christensen said:
“Batman is a great character but I think that Robert Pattinson did a really great job. It’s the dichotomy of the character, you gotta have one or the other. Probably, more Bruce Wayne would be the easier character for me to access personally.”
For Christensen, playing two sides of a character is nothing new thanks to his appearances in the Star Wars saga as Anakin and his dark side alter-ego Darth Vader. While there is still a chance that he could be returning to his Star Wars role sometime in the future, it seems that the idea of him playing Batman might be a one that excites some fans, but they shouldn’t hold out much hope of it actually happening.
Which Batman Movies Are Coming Out Soon?
While Christensen may not be taking flight as the Bat of Gotham City anytime soon, there is a lot to look forward too for Batman fans, whether you like your Dark Knight big and flashy or gritty and subdued.
The DCU will welcome its newest Caped Crusader in The Brave and the Bold, a movie that will see an older Bruce Wayne and his son Damien taking on the villains of Gotham and kick off a whole new era for the comic book legend. Currently, there are many actors in the frame to play the role if you listen to the constant babbling brook of rumors littering the internet. However, Gunn has pretty much outright debunked them all based on the fact that there isn’t even a script for the movie yet, and he is still currently concentrating on his new Superman movie.

James Gunn may not be ready to choose his new Dark Knight just yet, but new fan art has put one popular choice in the cape and cowl.
In the meantime, Pattinson’s Batman universe is already expanding in a number of ways as an Elseworlds project – one that will remain outside the DCU continuity being established by Gunn and Safran. The Penguin spin-off series, which will be led by Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot after his supporting villain role in The Batman, is set to be released later this year. In addition to this, an Arkham Asylum series is still in development, and The Batman Part II will be released in cinemas on October 2, 2026.
