When you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you. And Joker fans are now smiling from ear to ear following the release of the latest trailer for this year’s sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. The trailer offers our best look yet at the follow-up, which will pick up with Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck now incarcerated in Arkham, where he meets the love of his life, Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga. Joker: Folie à Deux will continue the same psychological thriller theme as the first movie, but this time it will take a much more unorthodox approach, continuing the DC franchise in the form of a musical. And audiences are very much on board.
“I don’t understand how anyone can say that music doesn’t work with a film like Joker because It totally f*cking works with those characters, It’s only a matter of how you are going to use it in their stories because it can end up being a masterpiece if u know what u doing,” says one fan on X/Twitter, with another adding, “This soundtrack and movie are going to be absolutely masterpieces!! I cannot wait to explore the world of Harley and Joker this October!”
Released back in 2019, the first Joker saw huge success at the box office, grossing over $1 billion and thus being named the first R-rated movie to ever do so. Despite its unconventional approach to the character (and lack of Batman), Joker was met with praise from both critics and audiences alike, with Phoenix’s performance winning the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Could Lady Gaga Win an Oscar for Her Performance in Joker 2?
While Phoenix looks to once again be demonstrating why he is considered one of the best actors of all time, all eyes are now on Lady Gaga, with fans convinced she too will be awarded by the Academy for her performance as Harley Quinn.
You can check out some more reactions below, all of which make it pretty clear that Joker: Folie à Deux will give the people exactly what they want.
