Pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter is coming to Netflix this December to celebrate Christmas. Netflix announced a holiday special called A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, a play on her smash hit song Nonsense, will be streaming exclusively beginning December 6. Carpenter won’t be the only attraction, either, as Netflix revealed more musical guests are joining her for the special.
As for why it’s a Christmas special, there’s a simple answer. Carpenter released a holiday EP called fruitcake last year, including a different variation of Nonsense called A Nonsense Christmas that she’ll perform for the Netflix event. In a statement provided to Netflix, the singer explained that the holidays are a special time of the year for her, and that’s a big reason why she’s excited about creating this event. Carpenter told Netflix.
“The holidays have always been so special to me. I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.”

Sabrina Carpenter’s newest music video, “Please Please Please,” sees her alongside star Barry Keoghan as a pair of criminals. The music video shows the real-life couple acting as a pair of criminals, which has gotten many fans on social media saying it has the vibes of the Joker and Harley Quinn. With Keoghan expected to reprise his role as the Joker in Matt Reeves The Batman – Part II, should the “Espresso” singer play the role of Harley Quinn? Or should Matt Reeves focus on other Batman villains?
The timing of the special is also appropriate because she’s coming off a lot of mainstream success following the release of Short and Sweet, an album that has been met with critical acclaim from various outlets such as the New York Times, Pitchfork, and more. However, music won’t be the only thing on display, as Netflix says there will be comedic cameos and unexpected duets to help give the show some additional flair. One such example of a cameo like this is Jenna Ortega showing up in the music video for Carpenter’s Taste.
Sabrina Carpenter’s show will have many surprises
Instead of being a streaming concert, this event is a variety show that sounds like it’ll appeal to a wider audience. OBB Pictures, as part of Carpenter’s At Last Productions studio, is producing the show. OBB’s CEO Michael D. Ratner says a show like this has been on Carpenter’s mind since the very beginning.
“Sabrina’s vision to subvert the classic holiday special has been clear since day one,” said Ratner. “At OBB, we partner with the world’s most captivating artists to reimagine the expected, and we’re proud of the work by our entire team and want to highlight Simone Spira, the Volara team, Sam Wrench, Nikki Boella and all involved that brought Sabrina’s vision to life on Netflix.”
Before focusing on her musical career, Carpenter was known to both adult and child audiences alike for her role as Maya Hart on Girl Meets World, a sequel to the ’90s classic Boy Meets World. Carpenter played the best friend of Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga from the original show. During her time on Girl Meets World, Carpenter released music, but it wasn’t until her 2022 album Emails I Can’t Send that she achieved widespread mainstream success.
In late 2023, Carpenter and Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan began dating. The pair have largely kept a low profile and are hardly seen together in public, but they have gone to red-carpet events together and confirmed they are together. Keoghan appears in Carpenter’s music video for her hit song “Please Please Please.”
