Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice underwent further testing on his knee Monday, but there remains uncertainty over the extent of his injury, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Rice got hurt in the first half of Kansas City’s Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, and head coach Andy Reid later said the Chiefs were worried about the injury. It was reportedly feared that Rice – who had to be carted off the field – tore his ACL.
Rice consulted with team doctors and received second opinions on Monday, according to Schefter, who adds that more tests will be necessary to determine the full extent of the wideout’s injury and a recovery timeline. Potential windows for surgery have been discussed as an option for Rice, per NFL insider Josina Anderson.
The 24-year-old leads Kansas City with 24 receptions, 288 yards, and two touchdowns this season.
With Rice out indefinitely, the reigning Super Bowl champs are expected to rely heavily on tight end Travis Kelce and rookie receiver Xavier Worthy. The Chiefs also roster tight end Noah Gray and wideouts Justin Watson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Skyy Moore, among others.
Kansas City signed wide receiver Marquise Brown in free agency, but the speedster is expected to miss the entire regular season due to a shoulder injury. Andy Reid’s outfit has also been missing running back Isiah Pacheco, who’s battling a fibula issue.
