And another one bites the dust. Netflix
has become infamous for dropping that dreaded axe on popular and critically acclaimed shows, and now the action spy thriller series The Recruit has been added to that ever-growing list. Despite solid reactions, and even an improved second season, The Recruit has now been cancelled.
The disappointing news comes courtesy of cast member Colton Dunn, who stars in The Recruit as CIA agent Lester Kitchens alongside Noah Centineo’s CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, who made the announcement on social media.
“The Recruit has been cancelled yall. Such a bummer. I’ll share some pics and fun memories on IG but just wanted you to hear it from me. Thanks if you watched. I’m AVAILABLE NOW! Hire me for you tv story!!”
Why Was ‘The Recruit’ Cancelled?
Netflix
Beginning back in 2022, the first season of The Recruit introduces audiences to Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks, a newly hired CIA lawyer. The fledgling lawyer soon finds himself caught up in a “dangerous game of international politics when a former asset threatens to expose the nature of her relationship with the agency unless they clear her name,” according to the synopsis.
The first season of The Recruit was well-received by both critics and audiences alike, gaining 83% on the Popcornmeter and 68% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The Recruit Season 2 landed much bigger numbers from critics with a score of 92% alongside a solid 77% from audiences. However, while the reviews may have been decent, with Netflix, it’s all about the viewership. Unfortunately, The Recruit Season 2 reportedly saw a dip of two million viewers compared to its initial episodes, and this may have been what caused the axe to fall once again.
