Duffy returns to tease new release after kidnapping ordeal

Duffy has teased her return to music, with a new UK Garage remix of her hit ‘Mercy’ following her previous kidnapping ordeal.

In a TikTok clip shared by Emotion HQ’s account, the Welsh singer is seen lip-syncing to a remix of her 2008 hit track. The remix appears to be a collaboration between Duffy and a group called E.motion

The caption of the clip read: “Some of you asked if Duffy was really doing a UK Garage remix with us… #duffy #newmusic #ElectronicMusic #ukgarage #dancemusic #remix,” teasing that the track will be released at some point soon. At the time of writing, no official release date has been announced.

Fans quickly took to the comment section to express their excitement about Duffy’s return.
“Duffy! Where have you been?! We missed you,” wrote one user, while another shared:
“OMG it’s so good that she’s back.” Another fan added, “It’s so great to see Duffy back. What a tremendous singer she has always been.”

The new clip comes after Duffy – real name Aimée Anne Duffy – opened up on her decade-long absence from music back in 2020, saying that she had been kidnapped and held hostage for a number of days, a period during which she was drugged and raped.

Describing her decision not to share the information previously in a social media post at the time, Duffy added: “…In the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine.

“You wonder why I did not choose to use my voice to express my pain? I did not want to show the world the sadness in my eyes. I asked myself, how can I sing from the heart if it is broken? And slowly it unbroke.”

She then went on to encourage fans to speak out about their personal struggles, adding that she felt “liberated” after sharing her painful account of her kidnapping.

Duffy also hit out at Netflix that same year, calling them “irresponsible” for “glamourising the brutal reality of sex trafficking, kidnapping and rape” in the film 365 Days.

In 2007, Duffy signed a record deal and her 2008 debit album ‘Rockferry’ became the best-selling record in the UK that year. She released her second album ‘Endlessly’ in 2010. In 2020, she released her single ‘Something Beautiful‘ and shortly followed that up with her track ‘River In The Sky‘.
