Ted Lasso Season 2 Trailer Arrives, Apple TV+ Summer Release Date Announced

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first trailer for Ted Lasso season 2. Along with the footage, the release date for the new batch of episodes has been revealed as well. Fans of the show would do well to set aside a little time this summer. Apple revealed the news during a recent event. Mark your calendars, as the show will return globally on Friday, July 23. As for the trailer, it gives us our first glimpse at what Jason Sudeikis’ Lasso and the Richmond soccer team are up to this time around.

The trailer opens up by leaning into the feel-good nature of the show with the tagline, “This year, kindness makes a comeback.” We see shots of the famous biscuits from the first season, as well as the “believe” poster hung above Lasso’s office door. Richmond was dealt a big blow at the end of last season and it appears those troubles have extended into this year. Ties. Bad luck. Negative media attention. No matter what, Lasso maintains his signature positivity through it all.

Ted Lasso become a slow burn, word-of-mouth hit during its first season. So much so that Apple has already renewed the show for season 3 ahead of its season 2 premiere. The show has been roundly praised by critics, currently holding a stellar 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes to go with a near-perfect 97 percent audience rating. It was recently honored at the 2021 Critics Choice Awards, sweeping every category it was nominated in, securing wins for Best Comedy Series, Best Actor (Jason Sudeikis) and Best Supporting Actress (Hannah Waddingham). It has arguably become the crown jewel of the Apple TV+ library thus far.

Since debuting in August of last year, the comedy series has been recognized with a multitude of awards and nominations. Jason Sudeikis recently won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe Award in the Best Comedy Actor category. The series also landed two Writers Guild Awards for Best New Series and Best Comedy Series, as well as nominations from the Producers Guild of America for Comedy Series.

Ted Lasso centers on Jason Sudeikis’ title character. He is a small-time college football coach from Kansas who is hired to coach a professional soccer team in England. Lasso lands the job despite having zero experience coaching soccer. The cast also includes Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster and Nick Mohammed. Sarah Niles has been added to the cast in season 2.

Jason Sudeikis, in addition to his starring role, serves as executive producer, alongside Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold, with Liza Katzer as co-executive producer. The series was developed by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly. It is, interestingly enough, based on a character that initially appeared in a series of commercials. Ted Lasso season 1 is currently available to stream in its entirety on Apple TV+, for those who wish to catch up. Be sure to check out the new trailer for yourself.
