The Witcher Season 2 Will Arrive on Netflix Before the End of the Year

Shortly after filming wrapped on the new episodes, it’s been revealed that The Witcher will be returning to Netflix with the debut of season 2 later this year. At the start of the month, the cast and crew of the popular series announced that they had completed principal photography on the upcoming season. It remained unclear if The Witcher would be ready to stream by the end of the year or if fans would need to wait until 2022, but it’s apparently going to be the former.

On Netflix’s investor video for its first-quarter financial results, Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos revealed some huge updates for its scheduled programming. Dropping that The Witcher will be hitting the streamer in Q4 2021, Sarandos also divulged that the show will be joined by the returns of the streamer’s other popular shows, Cobra Kai and You. This time will also see the release of the new movies Red Notice and Escape from Spiderhead.

“What happened in the first part of this year was that a lot of the projects that we’d hoped to come out earlier did get pushed because of the post-production delays and Covid delays and we think we’ll get back to a much steadier state in the back half of the year, certainly in Q4 where we have the returning seasons of some of our most popular shows like The Witcher and You and Cobra Kai as well as some big tentpole movies that came to market a little slower than we’d hoped like Red Notice and Escape from Spiderhead,” Sarandos said.

Developed for Netflix by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher is inspired by the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. Set in a medieval land known as the Continent, the series explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) and princess Ciri (Freya Allen), who are linked to each other by destiny. The series also stars Eamon Farren, Anya Chalotra, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Royce Pierreson, and Mimi Ndiweni.

Newcomers to the cast for season 2 include Kim Bodnia as Vesemir, a fan favorite that serves as a mentor to Geralt of Rivia. The cast has also added Kristofer Hivju, Yasen Atour, Agnes Born, Paul Bullion, Basil Eidenbenz, Aisha Fabienne Ross, and Mecia Simson, Kevin Doyle, Cassie Clare, Adjoa Andoh, Liz Carr, Simon Callow, Graham McTavish, and Chris Fulton.

Completing the second season of The Witcher has not been easy. Thanks to the coronavirus, the production endured multiple significant delays, making the production last longer than a year. To make matters worse, Henry Cavill was injured on set at one point, taking him out of action while the cast and crew filmed other scenes. Fortunately, all of the trouble is behind them all now with the season in the can, and better yet, we have our confirmation that the show will be back this year.

Season 2 of The Witcher will be released on Netflix in Q4 2021. You can watch the first season in its entirety now on the streamer. This news comes to us from Deadline.
