The NCIS universe will further expand at CBS with multiple series renewals and even a new spinoff getting ordered to series. Recently, it was revealed that the main series, NCIS, was renewed for season 19 with Mark Harmon returning. Now, the spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles has officially been renewed for season 13 along with the new planned spinoff NCIS: Hawaii getting a series order.
NCIS: Los Angeles stars Chris O’Donnell, LL Cool J, Linda Hunt, Daniela Ruah, Eric Christian Olsen, Barrett Foa, Renée Felice Smith, Medalion Rahimi, and Caleb Castille. The spinoff is executive produced by R. Scott Gemmill, John P. Kousakis, Frank Military, and Kyle Harimoto. It follows the investigations of the L.A.-based Office of Special Projects, an elite division of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. It is the second series in the NCIS franchise.

Word of NCIS: Hawaii was reported back in February, though the spinoff hadn’t yet been given an official series order from CBS. Matt Bosack, Jan Nash, and Chris Silber are co-writing and executive producing with Larry Teng on board to direct and executive produce. The series will follow the “first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor and her team balance duty to family and country, investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security and the mysteries of the island itself.”
Matt Bosack (SEAL Team) wrote the pilot episode for Hawaii along with NCIS: New Orleans’ Jan Nash and Chris Silber. Larry Teng (Supergirl, SEAL Team) is also set to direct and serve as an executive producer. The lead role of Jane Tennant has not yet been cast, but now that the spinoff has gotten its greenlight from the network, we would expect a casting announcement to be made soon. It’s not yet clear when the show will start filming.
This is all good news for fans of the franchise, but not every NCIS show can be so lucky as to get a recent renewal from CBS. It was revealed in February that the spinoff series NCIS: New Orleans will be ending with its seventh season with the finale scheduled to air on May 16. With seven seasons and 155 episodes overall, the show can still be seen as having a very successful run, even if it’s not lasting quite as long as NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles.
“It has been our sincere pleasure and honor to work on this show and with this incredible cast and crew for over 150 episodes,” said Silber and Nash at the time. “As disappointed as we are to see ‘NOLA’ end, we couldn’t be prouder of the work we’ve done and are grateful to the spectacular and resilient Crescent City that embraced us for seven wonderful years.”
Other shows to be given recent renewals at CBS include Bull, SWAT, Magnum PI, Blue Bloods, Bob Hearts Abishola, The Equalizer, FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, The Neighborhood, and Survivor. Tough as Nails picked up a two-season renewal while The Big Bang Theory prequel series Young Sheldon was renewed for another three seasons. This news comes to us from Variety.
