A Quiet Place Creators Say the Franchise Should Try TV & Go International

“Shhh…” is the name of the game for one wildly successful film franchise that cinephiles hope won’t be stopped anytime soon. The characters of A Quiet Place may have to keep quiet to evade the monsters’ wrath, but the real-life fans of the first few movies won’t stay mute as they wonder about what’s to come with the apocalyptic universe going forward. MovieWeb was on-hand to speak with its creators, filmmakers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, at the Heretic junket in Los Angeles and hear their thoughts about A Quiet Place — which they penned from the beginning — going forward and the latest film that was released.

Michael Sarnoski’s A Quiet Place: Day One, we absolutely adored. Michael’s an incredible filmmaker,” Beck told us. “We’re huge fans of Pig, and what he did going back to, like, the original story, and the original Day One was so exciting because it took an idea that, when we were creating it, was something… so intimate. But then he made, you know, kind of the maximalist version of that idea, and it was exciting to see those two things combined for us.” Beck added:

We feel excited just to see the franchise continue, but there’s so many stories you could tell. The one thing that we think hasn’t been tapped into yet is kind of the international lens of the events. And that’d be exciting, whether it’s through a film or maybe a TV series.

No, Beck & Woods Didn’t Rewrite Sam Raimi’s New Movie

During our interview, Beck and Woods also helped clear up rumors that they had aided in rewriting Sam Raimi’s upcoming horror film Send Help. “We actually had nothing to do with that movie,” said Woods. “That was a news story that caught fire, that we actually had nothing to do with, but it’s going to be amazing because it’s Sam Raimi-directed, and it’s terrific writers.” Beck added:

We’d been hearing about this because
we worked with Sam on

, he produced it, and we’ve been hearing about this movie forever and love it. But yeah, that news story happened, and we got a text from Sam’s producing partner, who was like, ‘Watch out. I don’t know how this came out!’

In the meantime, there’s A24’s masterful new Hugh Grant movie Heretic, written and directed by Beck and Woods. It offers plenty of suspense and genuine frights along the way, but the dialogue-heavy feature also covers a variety of topics that even bring a touch of humor, such as when the religiously centered characters draw parallels between spirituality and, say, fast food. On that note, Beck and Woods weighed in on some of their favorite restaurants in the infamous category. “As a Midwest guy, we were from Iowa, close to Wisconsin,” said Beck. “Culver’s is a Wisconsin staple that is incredible.”

Woods continued, “I’ve got a sweet spot for Checkers… out here on the West Coast it’s called Rally’s. They’ve got these amazing seasoned fries that you just can’t go wrong with, comes in a giant bucket.” While it’s not seasoned fries, you can grab a bucket of popcorn and go see Heretic, now in theaters from A24. Meanwhile, the films in the A Quiet Place franchise are streaming on Paramount+.
