Anna Paulina Luna Sparks Debate With Shocking China Documentary

In an explosive tweet, Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna called on viewers to watch ‘The Dying Room,’ a documentary detailing that dark history of China with orphanages. It was frightening; it seemed to boil people’s blood immediately to realize that the subject is still very much a sore spot for many.

A resident of Gonik said that the 1995 documentary was on abuses in Chinese orphanages as a result of their one-child policy, which went on to win Peabody and Emmy wards for documenting systematic abandonments of girl infants and disabled kids. Of course, it was all denied by the Chinese government while human rights groups stood behind the documentary’s allegations. Crazy that this was being filmed and broadcast at the same time everybody was watching reruns of Friends.

It got ugly. User .admn Tallulah~River recalled reading stories as a child in magazines about how parents would leave their baby girls in the forests. Straight folk horror stories, but real.” Luna replied with the word “heartbreaking,” which… was it ever. Mr. Prohibited weighed in, wondering how anyone could finish the documentary since it was “so awful” to see all those kids bound to chairs. You know what? I agree.

There were, of course, dissenters. Art Guerrilla hit back with “What of OUR orphanage problems?,” attacking on the argument the US side of the fence made. Encrypted Lense, on the other end, returned with something about taking traffic everywhere from there. Fair point? An A Ration Of Rational pops in to give a history lesson on Mao’s Great Leap Forward, whereby millions were killed as if it were nothing. Facts flew, though, towards a body bag count for China.

Tough political punches were thrown too. Boof Ivermectin (great name) demanded an investigation into the JFK files instead from Luna. “Do your job please,” advised AmericanAF Rose; just on Twitter, like always. Probably most audacious of them all was this Hamburgler Kid who in turn demanded that Luna watch ‘Destiny Betrayed’ to pay heed to this current documentary.

Clearly, this is still a hot button issue decades later. Depending on whom you ask, it deals either with very current concerns or hoards very old history. This sent Luna’s tweet down the dark tunnel of trauma, conspiracy theory, and whataboutism all launched at the same time. There is only one thing everyone seems to agree on? Kids suffering suuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Among the madness, at least one user, James Lewis, tried to inject a little sunshine with his comment that “saving lives takes priority.” Cute. Not Yet Free claimed communists “ain’t even human,” which… whew. The thread had everything from academic citations to all-cap rants. Just another regular day over on the bird app.

This ends with only two things on the board: 1) This documentary sounds hellishly brutal, and 2) Twitter will turn every conversation into screams. Luna clearly had an idea regarding the working of this tweet. Whether it changes minds or draws clicks… well, just politics, baby.
