Are Chloé and Saint Laurent About to Lose Their Designers?

Rumors are swirling that Chemena Kamali and Anthony Vaccarello are leaving Chloé and Saint Laurent, respectively. Could it be true?

Kamali was named artistic director of Chloé less than 3 years ago, succeeding American designer Gabrilla Hearst who held the position from December 2020 to July 2023.

“This potential exit comes as a surprise given how universally praised the German designer’s vision seemed to be,” wrote NSS Magazine‘s Julie Boone earlier this month. “Under her tenure, the iconic Paddington bag was successfully reissued, and the brand’s signature bohemian spirit regained its fresh edge. Behind the scenes, however, the financial picture remains alarming.”

According to Glitz, which first published an article about Kamali’s rumored departure on July 30, Richemont is regularly forced to inject funds to keep Chloé afloat, with the company suffering reported losses of 54 million euros in 2025, following 60 million euros in 2024, on revenues of approximately 220 million euros.

This reporting would seem to contradict Richemont’s own messaging. In its annual results for the year ending late March 2025, the group — which does not publish Chloé’s results separately — reported an “encouraging” performance. “Overall, ready-to-wear sales grew by double digits across all Maisons, with a particularly encouraging performance from Chloé.”

The Daily reached out to Chloé for confirmation of the rumors and we have not heard back one way or the other.

Over at Saint Laurent, Vaccarello has been creative director for over a decade, taking over from Hedi Slimane in April 2026 after Slimane decamped for Celine. Eager to throw everything he had into the job, Vaccarello shuttered his struggling namesake brand. Six years later, Kering reported 3.3 billion euros in sales for Saint Laurent, up from 1.22 billion in 2016.

However, according to Fashion United, it’s looking like Vaccarello may be ready to move on, perhaps to pursue more filmic work, having moved the brand into film financing with Saint Laurent Productions, which had three films in competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, including critical darling “Emilia Perez.”

The Daily reached out to Saint Laurent for comment. We have not heard back, but we will update this article if and when we do.
