Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the world’s best known action heroes, and has a physique that many would die for. However, the man himself is not quite as enamoured with his appearance as he used to be now that age is taking a toll on him.
In a frank discussion on The Howard Stern Show, Schwarzenegger opened up about how he often hates looking in the mirror and seeing his body as it is now, at the age of 76, compared to when he was in his prime. Once one of the world’s most famous bodybuilders, the Terminator star now has to accept that he is now that person anymore. He said:
“I kind of smile because every day I do look in a mirror and I say, ‘Yep, you suck.’ I look at this body … look at those pectoral muscles that used to be firm and perky and really powerful with a striation in there. Now they’re just hanging there. I mean, what the hell is going on here? It’s one thing to see yourself get older and more and more out of shape but most of the people have never been in shape. So what does it mean getting out of shape? When you’ve been hailed for years as this supreme body, and you have the definition and you see the veins coming down your abs, and you see veins on top of your chest and then … you roll the clock 50 years and you’re standing there and you don’t see that anymore. I never, ever thought about that when I was 30 years old or 40 years old that this was going to happen. It just sucks.”

Schwarzenegger Is Still A Force to be Reckoned with in Hollywood.

Despite having to accept that age is taking its toll on his body, there is no way to deny that Arnold Schwarzenegger is no regular septuagenarian. Having taken out time to be the Governor of California for a number of years, the actor returned to the big screen with a bang in movies like The Expendables, Escape Plan and Terminator: Dark Fate, proving that for him, age is just a number.
Earlier this year, Schwarzenegger stepped into TV with his first lead role in FUBAR, a Netflix series that pulled many of the star’s action movie tropes into one place and allowed him to chew his way through bullets and explosions as he has for the last five decades.
Currently, Big Arnie will be back in a second season of FUBAR, and has an upcoming appearance in Kung Fury 2 and none other than the President. Whether he will be slowing down in future is something that seems unlikely, having already lined up roles in the movie’s Breakout, Outrider, and a potential return as Conan the Barbarian in The Legend of Conan.
