Big Mouth Final Season Will Make History for Netflix

Big Mouth is coming to an end. The animated series created and starring Nick Kroll debuted on the Netflix screen in 2017, quickly becoming one of the most acclaimed productions in this format for an adult audience along with BoJack Horseman, which ended back in 2020.

Today the streaming platform announced that the next eighth season of the show will be the last, which will break a record for the company (information provided by Deadline). After Grace & Frankie finished after seven seasons crowning itself as the service’s longest original production along with Orange is the New Black, Big Mouth will surpass them and take the throne.

“Big Mouth is a towering achievement in animated comedy that will make Netflix history for its longevity. We are thrilled that we still have two more hilarious seasons to share with fans before this brilliant coming-of-age story reaches its conclusion.” read the official statement by Billy Wee, Netflix’s Director of Adult Animation.

Big Mouth follows Nick, Andrew, and a small group of teenagers going through bodily changes fueled by puberty. In addition, the series includes fun and awkward creatures like the Hormone Monster, the materialization of those same changes that the protagonists experience.

Along with Kroll, the series stars John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Jenny Slate, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Jordan Peele and more. Kroll and Mulaney play the two main characters and also provide voices for many of the supporting roles. Big Mouth was originally created by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin y Jennifer Flackett.

What Will Happen with Human Resources, Big Mouth’s Spinoff?

Netflix

Back in 2019, Netflix announced that Big Mouth would have a spinoff show titled Human Resources, that would focus on the world of the Hormone Monsters whenever they’re not around the kids.

The first season of Human Resources arrived in 2022, and was rapidly renewed for a second installment. Unfortunately for the fans, there won’t be much more after that, because just like the main series, the spin-off will end with its upcoming second season.

For now, no other project related to the franchise has been announced, although given the large variety of characters and stories the show has introduced and its popularity, it might have some good news in the future. Even if that doesn’t happen, Nick Kroll will still have some pretty busy couple of months.

The actor is set to appear along Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons in The Red One, a reimagination of the holiday mythology. He’s also part of Our Flag Means Death, HBO Max original comedy starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi, which is reportedly having a second season after the surprising success of the first batch of episosed, although there have been no news about its development for a while now.

Recently, Kroll also starred in the mixed-received Olivia Wild’s second feature film, Don’t Worry Darling, sharing screen with Florence Pugh, Harry Styles and Chris Pine.
