Riley first came to the wider film world’s attention with “Sorry to Bother You” in 2018. That debut was sharp and genuinely surreal. It starred Lakeith Stanfield as a telemarketer. His character discovers that adopting a “white voice” unlocks surprising professional success, and from there the story spirals into increasingly strange territory. The name Corvette carries its own weight. It has very specific associations around status and American identity. The promotional account didn’t address whether that framing was intentional. For a filmmaker as deliberate as Riley, the question is worth asking.
