The Milwaukee Brewers became the first club to clinch a playoff berth this season after the New York Mets lost to the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
“These guys, nobody believed in ’em,” manager Pat Murphy told Ken Rosenthal of MLB on FOX during Saturday’s game versus the St. Louis Cardinals. “Nobody predicted they’d be .500. There’s no one. They went against that.”
Milwaukee has made the postseason in three straight years and seven of the last eight since 2018. However, success in October has been elusive, as the team has advanced to the NLCS just once amid the stretch.
The MLB-leading Brewers were also first to reach 90 wins thanks to a plus-173 run differential, which is the best mark in baseball.
Milwaukee’s magic number to win the NL Central is down to nine following the Chicago Cubs’ loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.
The Brewers’ outstanding regular season comes after getting outscored 15-47 during an 0-4 start.
