BTS leader RM revealed why he made his new album ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ in a new video with bandmate Jimin.
Yesterday (May 26), Big Hit Music uploaded a new video starring two BTS members – RM and Jimin – as they listened to RM’s newly released solo album ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ in the former’s apartment and discussed the themes employed in the record.
As they listened to the B-side track ‘Groin’ together, Jimin told RM that he had “missed this about you”, referring to the upfront, brutally honest nature of the hip-hop track.
In response, RM spoke about how he had to be “the one who says all the right things, the nice things” in BTS. “I step up to represent the team – that’s what I always do. People expect me to make speeches and do interviews in English and to speak out about things like this.”
However, the BTS member says he believes he is only “an unimportant 29-year-old guy living in Korea”. “I’m just a 29-year-old living a slightly different life from others. But for the past ten years, we felt this burden,” he continued. “We just had to be conscientious and different.”
“I love BTS because of our music, but if I kept caring about what everyone else thought… if I kept going like this, I would feel like I’d want to die,” he told his bandmate truthfully. “Being unable to say the things I want to say – not that I say whatever comes to mind. I think that’s why I worked on [‘Right Place, Wrong Person’].”
Elsewhere in the video, RM also shared that Balming Tiger‘s San Yawn actually inspired him to enlist for mandatory military service later than he initially planned to in order to work on more introspective work. “He said, ‘Why don’t you stop being part of BTS for a while and leave a record for yourself after going through all these things?’,” RM quoted San.
The BTS rapper then shared that he and San Yawn had worked together on ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ as early as early February 2023, and even held a “song camp” at the HYBE headquarters which involved about 40 producers, writers and musicians in the brainstorming process of the album.
