The Cincinnati Reds designated left-hander reliever Sam Moll for assignment on Sunday, Sept. 6 with Graham Ashcraft returning from the 60-day injured list.
Moll, who made 161 relief appearances for the Reds since joining the club at the 2023 trade deadline, was 2-7 with a 4.79 ERA over 65 games this season.

He gave up two runs in one inning of work in the Reds’ 10-7 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Sept. 4.

Ashcraft, 28, hit the 60-day IL due to a UCL sprain in May, when the Reds were in the middle of a spring slide toward the NL Central’s basement and were also without closer Emilio Pagán.
Rather than Tommy John surgery, Ashcraft received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection to stimulate healing for the sprain.

“Missing two (or) two-and-a-half months is a lot better than missing a year-and-a-half,” Ashcraft said in May.
This season, Ashcraft posted a 1-1 record and a 3.33 ERA over 26 appearances. He joins a Reds bullpen at its healthiest and looks to be a strength over the final three weeks of the regular season against baseball’s toughest remaining schedule.
