Colts’ Richardson day-to-day after dislocating pinkie finger in preseason

Colts’ Richardson day-to-day after dislocating pinkie finger in preseason

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson left Thursday’s 24-16 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens with a finger injury.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said postgame that Richardson dislocated his pinkie finger and is considered day-to-day, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Richardson exited after taking a sack on Indianapolis’ second offensive series in the first quarter. The third-year passer left the field holding his throwing arm and was evaluated on the sideline before being officially ruled out.

Richardson was replaced by Daniel Jones, who’s competing for the Colts’ QB1 role after joining the team this offseason. Indy’s plan was for Jones to start the team’s second preseason game next week, but Steichen said he’ll consider changing his original idea if Richardson is available, given his limited playing time Thursday, per Garafolo.

Richardson received the first start for Indy this preseason and quarterbacked a drive that ended with a 53-yard field goal on the team’s first offensive series. He completed two of three pass attempts for 21 yards. Jones went 10-for-21 with 144 yards and no touchdowns against the Ravens.

Injuries have been a major issue for Richardson, who’s appeared in only 15 games since the Colts drafted him fourth overall in 2023. The Florida product missed minicamp this year due to a shoulder injury.
