Daredevil Actor Charlie Cox Dispels James Bond Casting Rumors

Daredevil Actor Charlie Cox Dispels James Bond Casting Rumors

Charlie Cox says that itch has already been scratched, and believes there are other actors better suited for the role.

Netflix

It’s been over a year since the release of the latest James Bond film, No Time to Die, which was also Daniel Craig’s final portrayal of the iconic MI6 agent. Naturally, fans of the series are wondering which actor will play the next James Bond, even if another installment might be years down the road. Numerous actors have been rumored to be in talks for the next 007 agent, including Charlie Cox, who spoke with NME to dispel those rumors:

“The honest truth is that I think there are better candidates out there than me. The Bond itch has been scratched a little bit for me with Treason but also particularly by Daredevil. Playing a superhero is not so different. I think they should do something different – and I think you know what I mean. It would be a really good time and opportunity to do that.”

Treason is an upcoming spy thriller that also features an MI6 agent. In the Netflix limited series, the chief of MI6 gets poisoned, and Charlie Cox’s character, Adam Lawrence, is his replacement, becoming the youngest-ever head of the intelligence organization. A murky past with a Russian spy puts Lawrence’s loyalty into question.

The trailer shows that Treason might not be as explosive or action-packed as the typical James Bond film, but it features plenty of mystery and thrills as Cox’s character works to uncover secrets while also hiding his own. Cox also spoke about the morality of the character, calling him a “modern-day hero”:

“I went back and forth on this… I ended up feeling that what makes him a hero is that he’s able to ultimately do the right thing at great cost to himself. And he’s able to admit to and recognize past failings. I think that is the essence of modern day heroes, because nobody’s perfect.”

Who Will Play the Next James Bond?

Eon Productions

No Time To Die was the 25th installment of the James Bond film franchise, the first of which was Dr. No, released in 1963. The character is inspired by a series of spy novels written by Ian Fleming, who worked for Britain’s Naval Intelligence Division during World War II. The actors who have already played James Bond are Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, George Lazenby, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.

Craig has stated that he’s satisfied with his work in the saga, and doesn’t plan on playing James Bond ever again. Other actors, such as Idris Elba, have been rumored as the next Bond, who has similarly dispelled those rumors. The 26th James Bond movie is still in very early development as the writers decide who they want to take up the mantle of 007.

Treason will begin streaming on Netflix on December 26th, 2022. It stars Charlie Cox, Ciaran Hinds, and Oona Chaplin.
