Rapper and influencer DDG has come up with a very shocking news release about a project in which he collaborates with basketball player, Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics, and the release will be at 9 o’clock in the morning Eastern Time. His extremely brief post to the public mainly resulted in the rather strange and unexpected morning hour for a usual evening premiere, sending the audience into a frenzy.

The announcement was quite clear and to the point: tagging the Instagram of Brown, posting the caption “9 am est tmmw 🔥”. The early morning for those who are accustomed to DDG’s content and music releases was the most talked about fact for his loyal fans. The collaboration that was signaled by the tag, breeds the expectation of mixing music and sports cultures, but the debate was mainly around the 9 AM start.

There came a large number of comments, and the majority of them were a mix of excitement and sleepless dread, at least indirectly. A user made a comment that was quite direct, “West coast folks crying in the car right now 😂😂😂,” emphasizing the 6 AM Pacific Time start for a large part of his followers. One more person showed the same sentiment by commenting, “U know we gonna be asleep at 6 am bro wtf 9 am est?? That’s 6 am in cali u geekin.”

The very early hour had the social media talk about DDG’s timing once more. A person made the comment in a joking manner, “9 AM? as in THE MORNING??? DDG SQUAD knows this was a typo it’s supposed to say 9 pm which is actually 12 am because DDG never on time 😂😂😂😂.” This comment sparked a little argument in the comments, with some people saying that Jaylen Brown had posted the same flyer which confirmed that the unusual morning timing was indeed right and was not an error.

Time zone confusion was taking place, but still the main excitement was for the collaboration with Jaylen Brown. One fan simply stated, “W DDG X JAYLEN BROWN 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” and he got directly to the point and disregarded all the distractions by turning the attention to the partnership. Another one was looking ahead and said, “Finna catch the vlog 🤣🔥,” which was a prediction of the behind-the-scenes content that usually accompanies DDG’s projects.

Still, there were those who were not quite sure that the early bird would indeed get the audience. A user with doubts predicted the future, “Nigga finna have 2 viewers and no one waking up at 9 am 😭,” and this person was not sure if the audience would come for the announcement at the crack of dawn or not. On the other hand, some saw this situation as a rivalry opportunity with one saying, “I Would wear Curry Jersey while pulling up😂😂😂,” thus revealing the NBA world is full of competition, yet the comment is humorous.

The announcement also led to speculations about Brown’s NBA off-season schedule, with a person commenting, “how he got time for this Jayson Tatum out,” who by doing this was, in a way, pointing to the other Celtics’ star. However, there is a section of fans for whom the timing is not a concern at all. One wrote merely, “I used to pray for times like this 🥲.”

DDG, who is a musician and has the most popular YouTube channels, knows how to create anticipation very well. He can easily generate the hype by collaborating with the NBA champion and Finals MVP Jaylen Brown—such a celebrity athlete being a perfect brand ambassador for him. Through an announcement of 9 AM release, he is not only breaking the conventional pattern of content distribution or rather he is instantaneously generating buzz and discussions that only come along with the daringness of the timing. This daring move reminds some of his recent gambling win.

No matter it is a new single, a video or an episode of his vlog series, the early morning reveal has served the first purpose of getting people talking. The mix of the Michigan-raised rapper with the Celtics’ superstar is a crossover of gigantic scales. And the next question is whether the audience will actually wake up or the buzz will always be behind their sleeping hours. Fans are also curious if this project relates to his recent music video or the energy from hosting Blueface.
