Dodgers put Brewers on brink of elimination with Game 3 win

The Los Angeles Dodgers are one win away from reaching the World Series for a second consecutive season after beating the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 in Game 3 of the NLCS on Thursday.

Tyler Glasnow allowed one earned run and struck out eight across 5 2/3 innings for the Dodgers, who got RBI hits from Mookie Betts and Tommy Edman.

“It’s incredible. This incredible group of guys. Being in my hometown. It’s a pretty surreal feeling,” Glasnow told MLB Network postgame after missing the playoffs in 2024 due to injury.

Milwaukee’s lone run came against Glasnow in the second when Jake Bauers cashed in Caleb Durbin with an RBI single after Durbin tripled a batter earlier.

The Brewers had no answer for the Dodgers’ bullpen after Glasnow departed. Alex Vesia, Blake Treinen, Anthony Banda, and Roki Sasaki combined to allow one hit over the final 3 1/3 innings.

The Dodgers’ bullpen entered the postseason ranked 20th in BB/9 and 21st in ERA, but have allowed one combined run in the championship series.

“I think the thing about our guys is they’re battle-tested, and they know that I’ve never lost faith in them,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “They’ve never lost confidence in each other. So to see what they’re doing right now, I’m not surprised.

“We knew all along we were going to need these guys. And these guys are delivering, which is huge. We’re doing a great job of preventing runs. And the bullpen deserves a lot of credit.”

Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio departed the game in the middle of an at-bat during the seventh inning. The 21-year-old grabbed at his hamstring and hobbled off the field before he was replaced by Blake Perkins.

Chourio said after the game he had a cramp and expects to play Game 4.

The Dodgers host the Brewers in Game 4 on Friday with a chance to clinch the series. Los Angeles would be the first defending champion to reach the World Series since the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009.

Shohei Ohtani will start for the Dodgers against an undetermined starter for the Brewers.
