Endgame All-Women Scene Was Too Brief

Avengers: Endgame is one of the most iconic movies ever released in theaters. The film was the culmination of 22 movies, beginning with Iron Man in 2008, and served as the climactic conclusion to the Infinity Saga alongside Spider-Man: Far From Home. Countless scenes stand out in the 3-hour-long runtime, with one of them being the all-female team-up that occurred during the final battle with Thanos. We see Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Shuri (Letitia Wright), and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) as they take down the Black Order and the Children of Thanos who invade Earth. Many fans adored the scene as it showcased the power of the female cast members who compromised the Marvel Cinematic Universe; however, one fan felt the moment was a little too brief.

Nia DaCosta is the director of the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels. In the movie, Carol Danvers, played by Larson, will return and pair with Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). Kamala Khan will also join the crew, as the titular character recently made her debut in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. DaCosta revealed some of her inspiration for the film in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I, like many women around the world, watched Avengers: Endgame and had that six seconds of all the Marvel women together,” she says. “And at once I had chills, but I was also very annoyed. I was like, ‘Two hours of this, please.'” So it was really nice that they decided to do a team-up movie with three of my favorite heroes. So that’s what was most exciting.” Although she may have been annoyed by the timing of the Endgame scene, DaCosta now has an opportunity to expand the characters she loves with The Marvels.

DaCosta Says the Characters Form a Sisterhood in The Marvels

Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau have a long history, as Larson’s character used to be good friends with Rambeau’s mother, who lost her life. After the tragedy, a divide between the two characters began to form, and their relationship will be dissected in The Marvels. In addition, Kamala Khan idolizes Captain Marvel, much like Rambeau did in the initial 2019 film starring Larson. DaCosta spoke on the relationship between the trio, saying they eventually formed a close sisterhood.

“While Carol and Monica are having to find their relationship again after all this time apart, we have Ms. Marvel, who idolizes carol in the way that Monica used to when she was younger,” DaCosta explains. “So you have these two adults having to reconcile their relationship while this younger person is also having a relationship that mirrors the way Monica and Carol used to be together.” She continues, “So I find it really interesting to view them together; how they become a sisterhood with their own different points of view. It’s actually really nice and fun and sweet watching them all work together.”

Fans still have a bit of a wait ahead for The Marvels, as the upcoming film is set for release on July 28, 2023. However, if you haven’t caught up with Kamala Khan and her origins, the Ms. Marvel series is available to stream on Disney+.
