Emily Ratajkowski tells it like it is
Budding podcast host and multi-hyphenate Emily Ratajkowsi is Harper’s Bazaar’s November cover star. The 31-year-old mom of one was styled by Zara Mirkin and lensed by Amy Troost for the editorial, and when it came time to the accompanying interview with Thessaly La Force, in typical fashion, Ratajowski was open and refreshingly honest—giving a sense of what’s to come on her “Call Her Daddy meets Fresh Air”-style pod (debuting November 1). “I’m down to talk about sex, be a millennial or whatever, while also having—hopefully—the eloquence and interview style of Terry Gross,” she says. She also spoke candidly about navigating life as a newly-single mom—“I feel all the emotions. I feel anger, sadness. I feel excitement. I feel joy. I feel levity. Every day is different. The only good thing I know is that I’m feeling all those things, which is nice because it makes me believe that I’ll be okay”—and confirms that yes, she is dating, but no, she is not on the apps, sorry fellas. When pressed about how she criticizes beauty standards endorsed by the male gaze in her best-selling book, while also sharing particular types of content online to 29 million followers, she noted: “I completely understand that sexualizing myself and putting images out into the world that reinforce the beauty standard is difficult,” she says. “I’m not trying to shake accountability. But I also don’t think I would have sold as many books had I not done that. That’s the way the world works. I mean, we all participate in systems that we don’t agree with.” Read the full feature here.
