Lizzo Wears Red Giambattista Valli Dress at 2022 Emmys

Lizzo might have skipped the official pre-Emmys red carpet, but she still offered fans an all-angles look at her bold dress during the ceremony on Sept. 12. The “About Damn Time” singer wore a customized version of a red tulle ball gown from Giambattista Valli’s spring 2022 couture collection, featuring a ruffled bodice, off-the-shoulder neckline, voluminous bell sleeves, and high-low skirt that cascaded behind her.

Before presenting the award for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series, she twerked on stage with help from host Kenan Thompson, who held up her lengthy train as she busted a move. Her reality show, “Lizzo‘s Watch Out For the Big Grrrls,” also won the award for outstanding competition series, leading her to show off the elegant design once again as she delivered an emotional acceptance speech.

With input from her go-to stylist, Jason Rembert, Lizzo kept her jewelry minimal to let the dress command the spotlight, simply wearing Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings. She finished the look with strappy red and clear sandals, a matching manicure by nail artist Eri Ishizu, and a topknot bun by hairstylist Shelby Swain.

Lizzo was in fashionable company at the 2022 Emmys, where Zendaya wowed in a classic black Valentino dress, Quinta Brunson shone bright in a brown metallic gown, and Julia Garner rocked a Gucci look featuring a stomach-baring cutout. Elle Fanning, Ayo Edebiri, Kerry Washington, and Lily James also served up standout looks.

Read ahead to see all the photos of Lizzo’s statement-making Emmys getup — and to watch her masterfully twerk with assistance from Thompson.
