Working with a group of talented Black designers, Macy’s released a series of exclusive capsule collections named Icons of Style. The collaborators include celebrity stylist Ade Samuel, MATEO Founder and accessories designer Matthew Harris, tween star duo Stella & Blaise, 5:31 PM’s Founder Jérôme Lamaar, fashion designer GooGoo Atkins, and jewelry designer Areeayl Yoseefaw Goodwin. Each of these designers brought their unique perspectives to several of Macy’s labels, creating stylish and affordable lines that cater to a wide range of fashion consumers.
Case in point: Samuel’s INC collection has something for the adventurous dresser. Tapping into her Nigerian heritage and background as a stylist, she infused her line with vibrant prints, bold colors, and fluid textiles, presenting fashionable day-to-night maxi dresses and stylish separates made for all sizes. “Rules are meant to be broken,” she says on Macy’s website. “I want [people] to feel sexy, bold, empowered, playful, and most importantly, themselves.”
Meanwhile, minimalists will be smitten with Mateo’s refined slingback pumps and boxy satchel bags for INC. Founder Harris parlayed his jewelry design expertise into a collection of effortlessly elegant shoes and handbags, embellished with pearls, crystals, and other eye-catching accents. “Simplicity is the essence of exuberance,” his quote reads.
Similarly, tweens Stella & Blaise designed a collection for girls and boys, placing firm focus on swirly prints, checkerboard patterns, and colorblocking. From graphic tank tops to groovy pants and dresses, the garments are packed with joie de vivre. “We want everyone to feel comfortable when wearing our collection — all day long,” they said.
Elsewhere, Lamaar brought their maximalist flair to And Now This, creating a gender neutral line that emphasizes personal style above all else. “When the fashion dreamer discovers these clothes I want them to feel magical, seen, loved and, most importantly, happy,” they said. Their sequin shirts and bright ponchos will wow anyone.
Atkins’s Bar III collection is reimagining curvy fashion with colorful femininity. “I was inspired to create this collection because someone who looks like me needed to make clothes for me,” she said.
Last but certainly not least, Goodwin’s collection for INC includes embellished drop pendants and shell-encrusted hoop earrings that feel whimsical and inviting. “My collection is inspired by pieces that symbolize home so I can feel at home wherever I am,” she said.
The capsule collections combine style and substance seamlessly, and most of the pieces are available to shop at Icons of Style now. Read on for a few of our favorites.
