During five seasons of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Meredith Marks has become a huge fan favorite. The entrepreneur has quickly become known for her statement-making fashion choices and pointed quotes—”You can leave!” will forever be iconic in the Real Housewives canon. However, she’s also established herself as a strong business personality through her Meredith Marks Jewelry and Meredith Marks Caviar brands. To kick off the winter season, Marks brought her namesake caviar to midtown hotspot Alessa in New York City for a splashy party. We caught up with the star to chat her latest RHOSLC looks, caviar do’s and dont’s, and what she’s gifting this holiday season.
What inspired you to launch your own namesake line of caviar?
When it comes to work, I always try to focus on things that I’m passionate about, lucky for me that includes caviar! I have always loved caviar, and it’s been a huge part of my life, so it was only natural for me to launch my own. When we first launched, not too long ago, there were very few branded caviars out there, now it seems to have gained popularity and I think that’s great.
How does it feel to be hosting your chic caviar party at Alessa?
It’s amazing, I’m having so much fun! I really enjoy doing these ‘meet and greet’ appearances and am always so grateful to the people who support our show, because without them we have no show. I am so thankful to be able to engage with these amazing people over my own caviar, which I love so much, it elevates the entire situation!
When it comes to caviar, what are your dos and dont’s? Is there such thing as a caviar faux pas?
You can pair caviar with most foods, so there are very few faux pas in that. The most common error, however, is using a metal spoon to serve the caviar; it interferes with the flavor. Caviar should always be served with a mother of pearl spoon.
In addition to caviar, what are some of your go-to holiday gifts that make the perfect present?
In addition to the obvious caviar, jewelry also makes a great holiday gift! Especially if it’s Meredith Marks Jewelry.
What are some of your rules/essential etiquette for dinner party guests—whether you’re hosting, or attending a dinner by someone else?
If it’s a seated dinner, being on time is very important. When you’re not, it really messes up the entire flow of the event. We’re all human and of course can’t always be on time, so that’s forgivable, but I personally try my best to be on time when the event is seated.
You’re a fan-favorite on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. What are some of your favorite fashion looks from season 5??
I changed my style a little bit this year, but stood true to my general monochromatic look with little to no pattern. I transitioned from a blazer with flared pants to a blazer with a skirt, especially paired with over-the-knee boots. It pulls the look together and makes it look polished, but still fun.
You’re not afraid of a fashion statement! What’s a fashion trend you haven’t tried yet, but want to—or are planning to?
I can’t think of a fashion trend I haven’t tried yet, but I can think of one that intimidated me the most! Recently, I tried the see-through dress trend, with a brief and a bandeau underneath. It was definitely out of my comfort zone, since I am a bit modest, but I think it looked great!
