Old Navy V-Neck Terry Swim Top and Bottom I Editor Review

Textured swimwear is having a moment, and I’ve been itching to try the trend. I’ve come across so many different bikinis and one-pieces made of tactile fabrics (think: stretchy crinkle material and terrycloth) from a range of brands, including both high-end and mass retailers. One that I didn’t expect to come across the fad, though, was Old Navy. The beloved American brand is famous for its timeless pieces, like denim and tees, so I wasn’t expecting to come across a terry-textured bikini in its new arrivals section — but I sure did. Cue the V-Neck Terry Swim Top ($18, originally $35) and Low-Rise Terry Classic Bikini Swim Bottoms ($18, originally $30), which I couldn’t resist giving a test run. My honest thoughts, ahead.

What I Like About This Swimsuit

I ordered this swim top and bottom in my usual size medium and chose the royal blue color called “Catalyst Blue” (which I knew would match perfectly with my favorite matching set. When it arrived a few days later, I couldn’t help but immediately run my hands over the terrycloth texture. It felt high-quality and soft, exactly as I had hoped.

I was equally as pleased when I slipped it on. The top and bottom offer moderate coverage while still feeling youthful, and the fabric is stretchy and thick (I promise, it’s not see-through). I’m particularly obsessed with the top because it has wide shoulder straps and removable moldable pads, two details that give it a sporty feel, which I personally adore.

And finally, I love that this top can double as a crop top for going out. I tried mine on earlier in the day, with plans to head to the pool later, and decided to throw denim shorts over the bottoms. The verdict: I’m definitely going to be doing that again soon, maybe even as a going-out top.

What’s Worth Noting

The top and bottoms have a nearly perfect five-star rating on Old Navy’s websites, and according to the reviews, it’s adored by people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. That said, I can’t think of any warnings to heed before adding it to your cart. One potential drawback is that it’s not adjustable, but I’m willing to bet it may fit you perfectly upon arrival.

One thing I wondered after placing my order was how it would hold up in the chlorine, especially because of its terry design. After taking it for a dip in my apartment pool, I can’t say that I noticed any differences in the drying process from a “normal” suit. One person who gave it a four-star review warned that it “stretches out a bit when it gets wet,” but I haven’t noticed this thus far.

Who Is This Swimsuit Best For?

This swimsuit is best for those like me who are looking to embrace the textured swimsuit trend. But it’s also great for people searching for a sporty style with moderate coverage.

  • This swim top and bottoms come in sizes XS-4X.
  • This activewear set comes in a total of five colors: pink (Cosmic Rouge), off-white (Creme De La Creme), and blue (Catalyst Blue).
  • Machine-wash the swim top and bottoms on cold on a gentle cycle and hang dry.
