Louis Vuitton set its sights on San Diego, CA, to unveil the resort 2023 collection, hosting a crowd of notable celebrities and influencers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. “Euphoria” star Maude Apatow was in attendance, clad in a sage-green Louis Vuitton turtleneck sweater with gold hardware buckles and a dark-blue tweed miniskirt featuring a voluminous sash lined in blue velvet. The swath of fabric created a billowing silhouette reminiscent of Victorian-era dressing, a theme creative director Nicolas Ghesquière elaborately explored in his spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection. The actress added height with knee-high leather boots in a cognac shade and accessorized with a gold chainlink choker necklace, matching the hardware of the sweater, plus small gold hoops. Her top bun, rose blush, and pink lip finished the look nicely.
Apatow was joined by fellow actress Emma Roberts, who donned a LV brown button-front coat dress with pink and gray horizontal stripes. A white collar contrasted the earthy palette, giving it a sporty edge. The “Holidate” star also opted for knee-high boots in the same shade, though hers opened at the toes. She completed her equestrian-inspired look with a red-and-white monogram box clutch, dainty gold hoops, and a matching chunky necklace. Roberts posed with another VIP guest, Australian model Miranda Kerr, who made an appearance in a tweed miniskirt set.
The stars were gathered at the architectural site for a show that, according to Ghesquière, had the sun as its guest of honor. “It plays an active part in the evolution of this wardrobe where changes in temperature set a stylistic tempo,” he said in the show notes. This would explain the many reflective garments models wore down the catwalk — namely, a series of metallic gold, silver, and copper trousers; a gleaming gold coat; a floral-embroidered shirt; and glossy halter tops that doubled as armor. Against a concrete background, Ghesquière played with the natural elements, presenting maximalist silhouettes in linen, jacquard, silk, leather, and tweed — all of which shone in dialogue with the sunset.
The event follows Chanel’s cruise-season kickoff show in Monaco last week, where the French luxury house invited family and friends to watch the 2023 resort show on a pebble beach. Gucci is next on the fashion calendar, presenting in Italy on May 16.
