See Why 1 Fashion Editor Loves Apede Mod Handbags

To date, I have 42 handbags in my collection. Zero exaggeration — I just counted. Handbags are the way I express myself. I have large, small, structured, oversize, crossbody, tote, mini, and everything in between — in nearly every color you can imagine. I often switch out my handbags based on my outfit or the event I’m attending.

And despite what my mother thinks, each bag is a little bit different. Some are great for important work meetings. Some are showstopping for date nights or an event. Others are good for everyday errands or brunch with friends. The point I’m trying to make is, I love handbags. I love the confidence they lend me and the way they can totally transform an outfit. At 42 total, I thought I had all the handbags I needed, until, of course, I came across Apede Mod, and my life has never been the same.

Founded in 2016 by best friends Jaquelyn Wang and Claudia Lin, the cult-following New York City-based brand is known for its color-popping handbags that are both minimal and enchanting. According to the founders, Apede Mod gets its origin from an ancient Egyptian god named Apedemak who stood for courage and independence and Mod, which symbolizes vitality and independence. “We want to combine fashion with utility for our creations,” Lin told POPSUGAR. “Each bag from Apede Mod is designed with inspiration from vintage pieces, architecture, and modern culture.”

The website features 12 different categories of stylish bags in a plethora of color options that are so good, you’ll find yourself spending a chunk of time scrolling through the site — and 22 opened tabs later, you’ll understand what I mean.

A bag, if chosen wisely, can last a lifetime, and that’s exactly what you’ll get in one of these. Ahead, shop some of my favorite styles from the brand. A word to the wise: these bags sell out quickly and don’t exactly restock quite as fast, so if you like something, it’s best to purchase when you see it.
