TikTok Might Be Banned In The US Next Month
Get ready to cut back on screen time! TikTok could be banned in the United States starting on January 19, 2025 unless its parent company finds a buyer, according to CNN. The ban’s ruling follows a Friday law that TikTok must be sold by its owner, ByteDance, due to concerns that ByteDance poses a risk to national security. However, on Monday, the company requested an emergency pause on the ban and intends to appeal to the US Supreme Court, according to ABC News. If put into effect, the law would fine app stores that continue allowing customers to download TikTok—and the app’s latest updates wouldn’t be accepted in the US. The ban would impact fashion brands’ social media presence and impact, likely reducing their virtual engagement, potential for viral content, and brand awareness online.
