Tom Ford Reflects On His Gucci Breakup, Parenting, & More For The Sunday Times
Tom Ford‘s latest role? Cover model for The Sunday Times! The dashing designer fronts the publication for its latest cover, timed to Ford receiving his upcoming Outstanding Achievement award at tonight’s Fashion Awards in London. In the new in-depth feature, Ford delves into his recently deemed billionaire status after selling his company to Estée Lauder, as well as parenting his son Jack, Haider Ackermann’s new role as Tom Ford creative director, and Ford’s past split as Gucci’s creative director in the early 2000’s—one of the house’s defining eras.
“It was a divorce, and let’s just say the other party filed for divorce,” Ford shared on the Gucci breakup. “It was grief and it took me years to get over that. I don’t mean that I thought it was mine. I mean I gave as much of myself as I would anything. It was a part of me and I was a part of it.”
In fact, that feeling lasted until 12 years later, when Alessandro Michele took the reins as Gucci’s creative director. “Even after I’d started my own company, it took me years to really get over that [Gucci Group],” Ford said. “It honestly took me until Alessandro [Michele] started at Gucci, then, well, Gucci all of a sudden felt … I felt good about Gucci again!”
London Fashion Week Is Banning Exotic Animal Skins
Exotic skins are out at London Fashion Week. According to The Guardian, the new ruling deems that designers need to commit to not using animal skins—which include crocodile, alligator, and snakeskins—in their collections. This ban will begin in 2025 for all LFW runway shows and presentations moving forward, with its soonest impact being February’s Fall 2025 show season. The UK-based fashion week is notably the first of the “Big Four” fashion capitals—which also includes New York City, Milan, and Paris—to issue a ruling on exotic skins in its collections. However, only time will tell if the other three cities issue similar decrees.
