Some amazing news for Geena Davis fans: the Academy Award Winner is coming to TV again. According to Deadline, The actress is set to star in an upcoming CBS pilot as part of the main cast. The legal drama will see Davis as a mother who is forced to reconnect with her detective son after witnessing her own marriage’s dissolution. CBS released an official description for Davis’ character, Joan, and a synopsis of the series: “Joan is a razor-sharp attorney and a self-made success who put herself through law school to support her three kids when her first husband died. Very controlling and always aware of appearances, Joan must rely on Todd, her least reliable child, when her 2nd marriage mysteriously unravels. And while she can’t condone Todd’s less than legal tactics, she’s impressed by his ability to sleuth out information. Is hiring Todd to work in her office a serious gamble?”

Geena Davis’s new venture is yet to have a name, but we are looking forward to seeing her in another exceptional role

The series is created by Scott Prendergast, known for MTV’s animated series Celebrity Deathmatch, in which satirized versions of celebrities do as the title suggests. Prendergast also penned the series Wilfred, a show about a guy who sees his dog as a fully-grown man. Additionally, CBS has a long history of developing and delivering legal dramas such as Perry Mason, JAG, Judging Amy, and critically acclaimed The Good Wife.

Davis has had a tremendous career spanning over 40 years. Davis’s roles in television have even garnered her an Emmy nomination for playing the first-ever female President of the United States in Commander in Chief. The actor was also featured in recurring roles in Fox’s The Exorcist, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and she even had a role in Netflix’s GLOW. If the pilot is picked up for this CBS drama, it will mark Davis’ first leading role on TV ever since playing POTUS.

Beyond television, Davis’s role in film has also been quite extraordinary. Davis won an Oscar for her performance in The Accidental Tourist, and she has also starred in modern classics such as Thelma & Louise, The Fly, and Beetlejuice. More recently, she can also be seen in Ava alongside Jessica Chastain and The Batman star Colin Farrell. In 2019, Davis was honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.

The actress also continues to work on behalf of her institute, Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, speaking out to improve the depiction of women in media and to reduce inequality in Hollywood and the stereotyping of females by the male-dominated industry. She executive produced and starred in the documentary This Changes Everything, which calls attention to and aims to reform gender disparity in Hollywood.
