Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson remains optimistic about his future in the NFL despite losing the New York Giants’ starting role to rookie Jaxson Dart after a disappointing start to the 2025 season.
“I’m not done,” Wilson said Wednesday, according to SNY. “I’ve got so much belief in myself, and I know what I’m capable of. I believe I was able to show it, especially on the road in Dallas and everything else. I know I can help this football team if that comes up.”
Wilson – a 10-time Pro Bowler who signed with New York this past offseason – has passed for 778 yards this year, the sixth-most in the NFL. The bulk of his production came in an overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago as he threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns. The 36-year-old was limited to fewer than 170 yards and didn’t account for any touchdowns in the Giants’ other two games. He’s completed just 59.1% of his passes this campaign.
The Giants decided to bench him for Dart after a 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs that dropped them to 0-3.
Wilson said he wants to remain with the Giants.
“I’m focused on helping this team win,” he answered when asked if he’d request a trade or his release. “I’m focused on helping Jaxson. … I want to be here. I love this organization, I love the process of it all. I love the guys in the locker room. I’m not giving up on us and this season.”
Wilson was once one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. He helped the Seattle Seahawks make two Super Bowl appearances and win one title. However, the 2012 third-round pick is now on his third different team in as many seasons.
The Giants traded up to draft Dart 25th overall in April. The 22-year-old looked good during preseason and has played multiple snaps this campaign, though he has yet to attempt a regular-season pass in the NFL.
“I’m ready,” Dart said Wednesday.
New York plays the 3-0 Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
