Pack up your bug spray and flashlights, horror fans, because writer and director Jane Schoenbrun is taking us back to summer camp. The I Saw the TV Glow director is filling the gap left by the absence of summer camp slashers, like the classic and iconic Friday the 13th. When I Saw the TV Glow came out in 2024, it arguably changed the course of modern horror films, with greats like Martin Scorsese singing its praise. So now, naturally, Schoenbrun is going to take a big meta swing with Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder in the new film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
The upcoming feature film is being produced by MUBI, which will also finance and distribute the film in select territories. The streamer/production company has proven its horror prowess with titles like The Substance and The Babadook. MUBI’s expertise, coupled with Jane Schoenbrun’s cutting-edge vision, has managed to lure in Hacks star Einbinder and The X-Files star Anderson, to star in the upcoming unconventional slasher that will go into production this summer in British Columbia, giving the cast the true summer camp treatment. Brad Pitt’s Plan B will also produce the film that centers on a director hired to reboot a slasher horror franchise called Camp Miasma.

With a new-found reputation to reinforce, Schoenbrun is taking a swing at a classic vibe. And while it’s unclear what roles Einbinder and Anderson will play exactly, the two stars only make Schroenbrun’s new project all the more intriguing. Between Anderson’s involvement in Ryan Coogler‘s reboot of The X-Files, and the lingering success of Season 4 of Hacks, the two actresses are bringing major starpower to the buzz-worthy film. The story is said to follow the latest Camp Miasma movie’s director, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious, reclusive “final girl” actress of the original film. This brings a whole new layer of slasher to the summer camp set.

Jane Schroenburn has carved out a fluid niche in the horror genre and fans are here for it. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is bound to be wildly different from I Saw the TV Glow, but fans’ confidence should only be bolstered by the talent that Anderson and the humor that Einbinder will bring to the production.
In a recent statement, Schroenbrun expressed their excitement on returning to summer camp:
“I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid and ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic:’ an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store. I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to sleepaway camp this summer with the mad comic genius Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson, and the daring folks at MUBI and Plan B, who by greenlighting this movie have summoned a plague-like flood of blood, guts, and various other fluids to rain down on us all.”
