Mariah Carey takes her title as the queen of Christmas seriously even when it comes to celebrating the holiday in the privacy of her own home. In a recent interview with W magazine, the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer revealed how she and her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, make the holiday extra special every year.
For Carey, going big at Christmas is a way to celebrate the beautiful life she’s built for herself and her 11-year-old twins, whom she shares with Nick Cannon. “When you grow up with a messed-up life and then you’re able to have this transformation where you can make your life what you want it to be? That is joy for me,” Carey said. “That’s why I want my kids to have everything they can have. I want them to be able to understand that they can be anything they want to be.”
Part of that means having Santa show up complete with reindeer every Christmas. “I create my own Christmas moment,” she explained to the magazine. “I mean, Santa Claus visits us. He comes with his reindeer. I am not exaggerating — this is the truth. By the way, before my kids were born, I did all the same types of things. That’s just how it is with me and Santa and the reindeer.”
This year, Moroccan and Monroe might just be able to give their mom something extra special for Christmas too. It seems in addition to having a special in with Santa Claus, Carey is also pretty close with the Tooth Fairy as well. “She’s very generous, the tooth fairy, so I think they have enough saved up and accumulated that they could actually buy me something this year, which would be amazing,”
she said.
“I love giving them gifts, because the act of opening up a ton of presents is something I wasn’t able to do as a child,” the pop star added.
Christmas isn’t just about gifts in the Carey household though, it truly is a way of life — and the Grammy-winner’s kids are already in the holiday spirit this year. On Nov. 24, they helped their mom usher in the Christmas season when they closed out the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The twins served as backup dancers on Carey’s float as she sang “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” and their famous mom shared on Instagram just how proud she was of them.
“Happy Thanksgiving!!!🍁,” she captioned a collection of photos from the day. “Grateful and so proud of my beautiful kids Roc and Roe, grateful for the lambily and for the precious moments in life. ❤️❤️❤️ Now it’s reaaaallly time!!! 🎄🎅🏼”
