The children’s book is all about the very special relationship between a son and his father and some of the characters are, of course, inspired by Archie and Harry themselves!

The book is actually based on a poem Meghan wrote to Harry in 2019, on Father’s Day which was only a month after she’d given birth to their first child.

On how the boy feels about the book, Meghan shared that ‘Archie loves the book, which is great because he has a huge appetitive for books and constantly, when we read him one, he goes, ‘Again, again, again!’ But now, that he loves The Bench and we can say, ‘Mommy wrote this for you,’ it feels amazing.’

The book was illustrated by Christian Robinson and the pictures feature a variety of fathers and sons sitting on a bench and doing different things together, such as looking at the stars or just drinking some apple juice.

As mentioned before, the book also contains illustrations of Prince Harry and Archie themselves in addition to other fathers and their sons.

Furthermore, there also seems to be a reference to Archie’s baby sister, Lilibet Diana in another illustration that shows Meghan Markle carrying a baby over her shoulder in a sling while out in the garden.

Meghan went on to tease that ‘If people start digging, I think that you can find some sweet little moments that we have tucked in there, from my favorite flower— to even my husband’s mom’s [Princess Diana] favorite flower, forget-me-nots, we just wanted to make sure that those were included in there. There is a lot of special detail and love that went into this book.’
