In case you missed it, this week’s internet drama revolved around Keke Palmer’s boyfriend and father of her son, Darius Jackson, publicly — and unnecessarily — criticizing her for an outfit she wore to a recent Usher concert. While Jackson swiftly wiped his social media following online backlash, Palmer didn’t immediately address the shade. But on July 7, she finally responded to the drama in the most Keke way possible: unbothered and hilarious, while getting her bag.
In a sweet Instagram video, the new mom sings a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” to her almost-5-month-old son, Leodis. The clip is then followed by a close-up of her new merch, including a crewneck and T-shirts that read “I’m a motha” and “I’m Stevie to the bullsh*t.” The crewneck is priced at $45 and T-shirts at $30, with all three ready to ship (both nationally and internationally) in just three to five business days. The video ends with a montage of snaps of Palmer and Leo, which Jackson was noticeably missing from.
“One thing is certain and one thing is true, IM A MOTHA, through and through!” she captioned the post. “To all my mom’s out there, how did your baby change you?? Mine empowered me! On such another level, my perspective changed because when my baby is good I’m GREAT! Look at that face! Gratitude galore.” While she didn’t mention Jackson, it seems Palmer is letting her fans know where she stands.
On July 5, Palmer wore a stunning, thong-baring dress for Usher’s residency tour in Las Vegas, where the singer serenaded her. A clip of the entertaining moment circulated on Twitter shortly after, in which Jackson decided to weigh in on his girlfriend’s fashion choices. “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom,” he tweeted later that night. After immediate fan reactions in Palmer’s defense, Jackson doubled down on his critique, writing, “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe.”
Without directly acknowledging his comments or the internet’s opinions on the matter, Palmer’s response to Jackson is clear: with her son as her priority, she’s doing just fine. While the couple’s current relationship status is up in the air, you can trust we’ll be supporting Palmer all the way. Shop her iconic merch ahead.
