We now have moody choreography to match Taylor Swift‘s “Midnight Rain.” Choreographer Haley Messick of the renowned Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles recently came up with a routine set to the heart-wrenching sixth track off Swift’s latest album, “Midnights.” On Jan. 9, the dance studio shared a montage of several of its dancers nailing the moves.
Whereas dances that go viral on TikTok are meant to be re-created, this choreography doesn’t look like it’s for beginners. For starters: the choreography begins standing but quickly transforms into a floor routine after what is essentially single-leg squat. Dancers then launch into splits and other groundwork before getting back on their feet — in heels, mind you.
Messick often shares heels dance routines and tutorials on Instagram. The dancer also previously performed in the Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 runway show, choreographed by frequent Rihanna collaborator Parris Goebel. “My heart has been over pouring with gratitude since the second this process started,” Messick wrote after the show aired. “Being able to walk into a room everyday filled with so much inspiration and love was a privilege and an honor above all else.”
Interested in re-creating Messick’s “Midnight Rain” steps at home? The sequence might be the perfect challenge for the new year. Or just sit back and appreciate the (quite spicy) choreography by watching the clip above.
