After serving eight years of her ten-year incarceration, Gypsy Rose Blanchard will be set free two years early on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
The documentary by Lifetime, titled The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, will be released in three parts beginning January 5, 2024, with future installments being released on January 6, and January 7. Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Story Has Been Seen on TV Before
While The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard promises to offer new information from Blanchard herself, this isn’t the first time her story has been seen on television. HBO produced a feature length documentary titled Mommy Dead and Dearest, which was released in 2017. The Act also premiered in 2019 on Hulu, and was a fictionalized account of Blanchard’s story that starred Joey King in the lead role. She has also been the subject of episodes of Dr. Phil, 20/20, and a previous Lifetime movie, Love You to Death.
When Gypsy Rose Blanchard spoke to People Magazine, she expressed regret for the murder of her mother, which saw her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, stab Dee Dee Blanchard several times, causing her death. Godejohn is currently serving a life sentence in prison for first-degree murder. In her interview with People, Blanchard said:
“Nobody will ever hear me say I’m glad she’s dead or I’m proud of what I did. I regret it every single day.”
