He-Man and the Masters of The Universe Announces Season 2 Premiere Date

Not to be confused with the Kevin Smith reboot, Netflix’s other He-Man series now has a release date for its second season.

Fans of Masters of the Universe still haven’t gotten the new live-action movie that they have been promised for the last decade. Still, in the last year, Netflix has released two very different TV series based on the 80s franchise, with Kevin Smith creating a new continuation of the story from the original Masters of The Universe cartoon and Mattel Television developing a brand new iteration called He-Man and the Masters of The Universe that looked to capture a younger audience. This second series has now finally had its second season premiere date announced by the streamer on the show’s official Twitter account.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Like any reboot of a nostalgia-soaked property, the newest version of He-Man divided fans with its change of animation style and overall feel of the show. However, the viewing numbers were enough to secure a new run of ten further episodes, which will be released on Netflix on March 3rd, meaning there is only a month to wait for fans of this version of the muscle-bound Eternian hero. You can see the announcement in the tweet below.

There are no details currently known about the new episodes, but the main voice cast, including Yuri Lowenthal, David Kaye and Kimberly Brooks is likely to remain unchanged, and showrunner Rob David is also expected to return, having been part of the Masters of the Universe world for almost a decade through its comic book iterations with DC. While the show is not, and does not try to be, the 80s original, it was generally well-received by new fans, most of which have no real prior connection with the franchise.

Rebooting Masters of the Universe Is Constantly Being Held Back By Nostalgic Needs

The Masters of the Universe franchise has gone through changes over the years since Prince Adam first held his magic sword aloft and yelled, “By the power of Grayskull” to be transformed into He-Man. While Dolph Lundgren took on the role in 1987’s live-action movie, which was badly received but has grown into a cult classic, there have been no successful attempts to revive the battle of good and evil in Eternia in a live-action format. However, last year, after the latest film version seemed to collapse in on itself, two animated series’ were announced to be heading to Netflix. The first of those came from writer/director Kevin Smith, who kept the characters generally looking like they did back in the 80s and looked to continue the story of the original show.

A few months later, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe landed, a completely different prospect to Smith’s vision, which was created in chunky CGI animation and set out to bring the world of Eternia to a whole new audience. While there were some fans who were happy with the complete change, others instantly dismissed the update without giving it a second look. Just like Smith’s version, the strong sense of nostalgia around the franchise just wouldn’t let some fans enjoy the newest version for what it was. With this new season, Netflix will be hoping to build on the franchise and continue to capture its new audience.

Netflix’s New He-Man Cartoon Was Made for Today’s Kids, Not Yesterday’s Generation of Fans

Following hot on the heels of Kevin Smith’s animated return to Eternia, another reboot of the He-Man franchise is coming to Netflix, and this time is it really for the kids.
