The release date for the upcoming Heartstopper film has been revealed – find all the details below.
The movie will serve as the finale to Netflix‘s coming-of-age romantic comedy drama, which ran for three seasons between 2022 and 2024.
Titled Heartstopper Forever, the feature-length conclusion will see Kit Connor and Joe Locke reprise their roles as Nick and Charlie, respectively.
“Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them,” the official synopsis reads.
“Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?”
Now, Netflix has confirmed that the final chapter of Heartstopper will arrive on July 17. Check out the announcement post here:

The likes of Yasmin Finney’s Elle, William Gao’s Tao, Corinna Brown’s Tara, and Kizzy Edgell’s Darcy are also set to return in the film, per Digital Spy.
However, it has been confirmed that Olivia Colman will not be reprising her role as Nick’s mum, Sarah. The character has instead been recast, with Anna Maxwell Martin (Line Of Duty, Motherland) stepping in.
Speaking to Netflix’s outlet Tudum, the show’s creator Alice Oseman, who also wrote the books the show is based on, explained: “When beginning to work on the Heartstopper Forever screenplay, I knew how important it was that Sarah, Nick’s mum, appeared in the story.
“Since Season one, we have seen how close Nick is with his mum; she’s one of the few people he can turn to in moments of crisis. While in Season three, we were able to tweak the story to avoid any appearance of Sarah, it felt nonsensical for her to be absent from this final chapter, given some of the emotional struggles Nick faces.”
Oseman went on to say that Colman “was not able to join us for the film, so we made the very difficult decision to recast the role, rather than exclude the character”.
In a four-star review of Heartstopper season three, NME hailed it as “a transformative season that renews Heartstopper’s sense of purpose and relevance to LGBTQ+ viewers in particular”. It concluded: “This coming-of-age show has come of age and feels more vital than ever.”
The third run of episodes also appeared in NME‘s 20 best TV shows of 2024 list.
