Here’s everything we know about ‘MobLand’ season 2

With a stacked cast including Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren, MobLand was always going to be something special. Over season one’s ten episodes, showrunner Ronan Bennett (Top Boy), co-writer Jez Butterworth, and producer/director Guy Ritchie dialled up the gritty drama and created one of the most-talked about shows of the year.

Viewers followed fiercely loyal Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) as he attempted to stop the Harrigan crime family from losing an all-out gang war with their rivals, The Stevensons. There were plenty of deaths, betrayals and cat-and-mouse run-ins with the police, all leading to a shocking season finale.

With unfinished business between the two clans and new enemies emerging from the shadowy underworld, it feels like there’s still plenty of MobLand left to uncover in future seasons. Here’s everything we know so far, from potential release dates to who might return from the cast.

Has ‘MobLand’ season two been confirmed?

It has – Paramount+ officially renewed MobLand on June 23, no huge surprise given that it’s become the second most-watched show in the streamer’s history.

Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, said of the renewal: “With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph – driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce and Helen.”

“We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to Number 1 in the UK.”

What have the cast and crew said about a second season of ‘MobLand’?

Co-writer Butterworth said of the renewal: “TV was a brand new world for me and I was reluctant to commit to a TV overall, but Chris, David [Glasser], and the teams at Paramount and 101 Studios completely changed my perspective with their bold creative vision and razor-sharp strategic insight.”

He also said he was “excited to dive into the second season of MobLand“.

Before the second season was officially confirmed, Brosnan said it would be “wonderful” to reprise his role. He said of the show’s success: “I’ve been around the track so many times and had my hopes and dreams dashed, hither and thither on the expectations. So I just revel in the joy and the success of MobLand, and that it has captured the hearts, the imagination, of the world, as it were, especially in the UK.”

When will ‘MobLand’ season two be released?

Well, it really depends how quickly the scripts are written, and how soon the A-list cast members are available. Season one began production in November 2024 and wrapped in March 2025, just a few days before the show started airing, so a fast turnaround may well be possible.

Who could be back for the next season?

The major players all survived the first season of MobLand, so you can expect Helen Mirren’s Maeve Harrigan, Paddy Considine’s Kevin Harrigan and Pierce Brosnan’s Conrad Harrigan to make a return. Butterworth has also confirmed that Harry Da Souza’s accidental stabbing by wife Jan (Joanne Froggatt) wasn’t fatal, so Hardy will be back as well – though he might be spending less time in the kitchen.

There’s also more for Kevin Harrington (Paddy Considine) and his potential half-brother Eddie (Anson Boon) to do, so we’d expect to see them back alongside fearsome cartel operative Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer).

Where could the story of MobLand go?

Things ended well for Harrigans after a smart plan orchestrated by De Souza resulted in them coming out on top in their power struggle. Rival mob boss Richie (Geoff Bell) is dead and Conrad and Maeve look set to be freed from prison. However, it doesn’t look like the peace will last for long with their ambitious son Kevin plotting a coup. There’s also the arrival of mysterious gangster Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer) for the Harrigans to contend with.

According to Hardy, MobLand could expand beyond its current Merseyside setting when it returns. “The plan is definitely to see more seasons. The question is: Does it become international,” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “There are international elements to organised crime, which are touched on in season one and the control of drugs and ammunition and weapons and people and all kinds of things that go through Europe and from Africa through to South America, Pakistan and the variable commodities that move around Europe.”

He added: “There are families that are involved in each European country that are vying for power to have that status to be able to move these kind of commodities through and who polices that and how that fits into a world stage.”
